New Clinical Medical Librarian Appointed

It is a distinct pleasure to announce that Dr. Keith C. Mages will be joining Weill Cornell as the Samuel J. Wood Library Clinical Medical Librarian, effective February 15, 2016. In his new role, Keith will be integral to the ongoing transformation of the clinical medical librarian service, supporting next generation science, care, and education.

Currently the Clinical Informationist for Kaleida Health's Buffalo General Medical Center, Dr. Mages supports the residency program with targeted, yet comprehensive, evidence-based literature to enable optimal and informed patient care. His interest in the history of medicine provides a valuable depth and perspective on evidence-based, patient-centered health care.

Keith has engaged in patient health education in various positions and has served as a co-instructor for LIS586 Health Sciences Librarianship in the Department of Library and Information Studies at the University of Buffalo. In addition to content expertise, Keith transitioned the pedagogy from a lecture-based course to a problem-based asynchronous online teaching environment that employed flipped classroom techniques.

Keith's research interest is information-seeking behaviors. One recent research grant studied empowering patients with quality web-based health information resources using tablet technology, as measured by outcome assessments of patients' knowledge and further information seeking. He has been the project manager for two research grants involving patient care, technology, and the history of medicine. He has authored several publications as well.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing (PhD), University at Buffalo, State University of New York (MLS), Yale University School of Nursing (MSN), and University of Buffalo (BSN), Keith brings outstanding educational preparation, energy, enthusiasm and excellence to Weill Cornell and the Samuel J. Wood Library.

We look forward to having Keith join our library faculty. He will report to Judy Stribling, Assistant Director for Clinical Services.
