MEDICAL CENTER ARCHIVES UNVEILS DIGITAL COLLECTIONS

The Medical Center Archives has launched a new Digital Collections page on its website.

New Image Databases

The Medical Center Archives collaborated with Cornell University Library to migrate its image database to a new online platform. Two new databases are now available on the Archives' website: one for internal users and one for external users. The Institutional Database is available for those who have computers connected to the Weill Cornell Medical College network or a NewYork-Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center IP address. Other users may use the public Shared Shelf Commons Database.

The databases include thousands of images of buildings, faculty, students, residents, and events at the medical center. Also included are images of the first two locations of the New York Hospital and the first location of the Weill Cornell Medical College. We also have class pictures for both the Weill Cornell Medical College and Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing. Images donated by private donors are also available, most notably the George Papanicolaou, Connie Guion, Walsh McDermott, and Flora Jo Bergstrom Collections.

Both sites contain images from other photographic collections at Cornell University. (To only view our collections, use the drop down menu next to the search box to select Cornell: NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center Archives).

Institutional Publications

The Medical Center received funding from the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO) to digitize selected institutional publications at Internet Archive. http://archive.org/details/newyorkpresbyterianweillcornell

Publications already digitized are annual reports of the New York Hospital and Lying-In Hospital and announcements of the Weill Cornell Medical College and Cornell University-New York Hospital School of Nursing. These publications are also part of the Medical Heritage Library http://archive.org/details/medicalheritagelibrary

More materials will be added to these digital collections in the coming months.
