Rules for User Conduct

To fulfill its mission, the Samuel J. Wood Library must maintain a safe and comfortable environment that is conducive to study and the effective use of information resources. Library users are expected to show consideration for other users and staff members.

Please be advised that patrons are also expected to adhere to the library's rules concerning COVID-19 which can be found here.

All users are required to abide by the library's borrowing and lending rules, which have been designed to provide the best service for all users. These rules can be found here.

The following activities are not allowed in the Library:

  1. Leaving personal belongings unattended or using personal belongings to reserve space or equipment
  2. Theft or misappropriation of library property or another user's property
  3. Vandalism, abuse, or misuse of library equipment or property
  4. Leaving a child alone in the library without adult supervision
  5. Allowing a child to use library equipment, including all computers
  6. Misusing restrooms (for example, extreme messiness or washing of laundry)
  7. Solicitations of any kind
  8. Improper dress (shoes and shirts are required at all times)
  9. Talking loudly, making noise, or engaging in other disruptive behavior; playing of audiovisual equipment that others can hear.
  10. Falsification of records (including lying or misrepresenting oneself)
  11. Using another person's ID or library card to enter the library or to check out library materials
  12. Interfering with another person's use of the library; harassment or verbal abuse of other library users
  13. Interfering with the library staff's performance of their duties; harassment or verbal abuse of staff members
  14. Refusing to leave the premises at library closing time
  15. Refusing to discontinue use of equipment - such as computers or printers - after closing announcements.
  16. Threats of physical violence
  17. Telephone harassment of other users or staff
  18. Failing to report and surrender to staff any lost items or money found on library premises
  19. Using or possessing drugs or alcohol
  20. Smoking and/or chewing tobacco
  21. Possession of weapons
  22. Possession of animals, except those needed to assist persons with disabilities

Library privileges may be limited or revoked for violating any of the above rules.
