How to use the Scientific Software Hub

This site is designed to help WCM staff and students to identify appropriate scientific software, provide information and training on software use, and administer acquisition of software licenses when needed. The Scientific Software Hub is organized into three main categories:

1) Available software

This is software that WCM already has licensed, or is free to use. Software that is licensed comes in one of two forms: a site license, allowing anyone on the WCM network to use the software, and a 'seated' license, in which a primary licensing fee has been paid by WCM, but each user is required to purchase an additional "seat" (typically about $180 for most of our current licenses).

2) Register for cost sharing of licensed software

Through the software survey performed in August 2016, we identified a number of programs that are not currently licensed, but which had a reasonable level of interest from the WCM community. This section of the website therefore is a means by which we can identify who is interested in specific software, and facilitate getting that software licensed. Until the end of the year, individuals can register their interest in this software via the website. In January, the distributed cost of each license will be calculated, and all registered users will have opportunity to purchase the license. If there are insufficient users to bring the distributed cost to an acceptable level for everyone, then the software will remain in this section of the website for another 3 months, in order to allow for additional people to register interest. Additional software will also be put up on this site if we are aware of community interest.

3) Clinical database registry

This section lists information about the various clinical databases that exist; what data they contain, who is able to access these data, and how to register for access.
